Ruthy and Miguel tied the knot July 22, 2007, in St. Helena, CA. We currently live in Napa Valley, CA.

We enjoy reading, bowling, mini golfing, going to the mountains, hiking, camping, snow skiing and snowboarding.
We enjoy watching TV shows such as The Big Bang Theory, Burn Notice and Royal Pains.
Our Story
Miguel and Ruthy met at Pacific Union College in Angwin, CA, in winter 2003, through a group of friends that enjoyed playing Rook and eating at Giugni’s, the local deli. They also got to know each other better through the Elmshaven Pathfinder Club, a club off of the Elmshaven SDA Church.
Ruthy was working on an anthropology project, researching Pathfinders, and Miguel invited her to join the club to be a girl’s counselor, because at the time the club needed one. Months after Ruthy joined, the Pathfinder kids began asking Ruthy and Miguel if they were dating. At the time, only Miguel had a car and they rode together to and from Pathfinder meetings. Of course, they said no. After finals ended in Spring 2003, Ruthy told Miguel that she liked him through instant messaging.
Miguel was shocked when he heard the news. As the summer began, Ruthy went to Camp Wawona in Yosemite to be a girl’s counselor, and Miguel went to England for an honors class.
At the end of the summer, Miguel called Ruthy’s house and began talking about their summer. Ruthy was hired as a Resident Assistant (RA) for the dorm and also worked as a campus ministries leader for Lighthouse. Miguel had already decided to be a campus ministries leader for Lighthouse.
As they prepared for the school year to begin, they went to Albion Field Station in Mendocino, CA, for a campus ministries/RA retreat. They began talking the second night of the trip, and decided to begin dating since they had many things in common; and since the Pathfinder kids had asked them if they were dating, they had to give the kids an answer.
It was January 8, 2006, and Ruthy had just arrived at Oakland Airport from Christmas break in Colorado. After picking her up from the airport, Miguel gave her a blindfold and wanted her to put it on because he didn’t want to ruin the surprise that he had planned. Ruthy wanted to find out where he was taking her, but he wouldn’t say a word. Ruthy tried sleeping on the car trip to the “mystery destination”, but was too excited to fall asleep. She tried desperately to figure out where he would take her. Two-and-a-half hours later, Miguel finally stopped the car at the very place where they had gotten together, at Albion Field Station in Mendocino. After exchanging Christmas presents (because they didn’t get to see each other for the holidays), Miguel began talking about how lucky and blessed he was, and all of a sudden pulled out a ring and proposed!
